The main goal of Word is writing texts, within different sizes, colours and types of letters. We can also insert images, graphics and tables.
Using the app WORD we can improve our writing and reading competences (stimulate cognition) that can be used in another apps, such as, Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber, Google and Google Maps that can improve social skills.
The use of Word can also improve the competences in using the ICT devices (PC, tablet, smartphone) in general.

Microsoft Word is an app with many possibilities in what concerns its usage by IDPs. It can be used as a cognitive stimulation, learning and an easy reading tool.
Users may use Microsoft Word to produce texts or important documents such as a curriculum or a presentation letter. They might as well train the velocity and functionality of their writing and reading and use their improvements in social app’s.
The supports needed can range from intermittent to widespread depending on the capabilities of the IDP.
Below it’s presented a scheme to better understand the positioning of the main icons to format the text explained before.
If you are a relative or a professional and you are going to use WORD in tablet/smartphone with an IDP, you must take into account that:
- Protect your password.
- Password should be difficult to guess.
- Avoid including your name.
- Do not use your password anywhere else online.
- Never share your password.
By using this app in a personal computer there is no need to consider privacy guidelines since password is not necessary.

These two activities are intended for users. Both have the general objective of increase autonomy and enhance the skills of decision-taking and opinion building. The “word” software is used here as a tool. As the activities require analysis and thinking, it is highly recommended the support of relatives or professionals during its development:
- Explaining the user which are the objectives and how can they do the activity.
- Supporting them if they have doubts.
- Helping them with the use of the Word software.
ACTIVITY 1: CURRICULUM
Objective: To draw up the own curriculum
Step 1: Open word and choose a new document
Step 2: Write the following information (Bold, Arial, size 14, colour dark blue)

• Birth Date:
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
(Indicate the studies and courses that you have accomplished). For example:
Attended the professional training center in the course of Cooking from September 2014 to March 2016.
(Write a small text indicating the dates and works you have done). For example:
From January to June 2014 worked as a receptionist in Cercigui, in Guimarães
Write a litle bit about your interests and hobbies.
Step 3: SAVE AS (CV your own name). For example:
CV John Smith
Step 4: PRINT A COPY
ACTIVITY 2: EVALUATION
Objective: To make the clients/relatives’ evaluation
Step 1: Choose a new document
Step 2: Write the information (B, Calibri, size 10, colour green)
For each client/relative write a paragraph (maximum 5/6 lines) with the client/relative name and basic information, followed by some considerations about his/her behaviour and accomplished objectives/house chores.
